You can check the Firmware version of your HaliKey by connecting to the serial port it presents
with a terminal emulator (CoolTerm is cross platform)
and typing:
/show
It will respond with something that looks like this (this is just an example):
Built: Jun 23 2026 14:31:22 Hash: 4841597
LEDs: On
MIDI: On
Timing: Off
Serial: On
PTT: On
DEBUG: On
If the date at the top of this page is newer than what you see from your HaliKey, then we recommend
you re-flash your HaliKey with the newest firmware.
This tool requires either Chrome or Edge. It does not work in Firefox or Safari.
How to flash new firmware on your HaliKey MIDI:
Click the link above. It will take you to the Flasher tool, pre-populating the firmware URL with the latest HaliKey MIDI Firmware.
Click "Pick Device"
Select the serial port that represents HaliKey MIDI. Click "Connect"
Click "Reboot to Bootloader."
NOTE: On MacOS, this might look like it fails, even though the "Confirm/Pick Drive" window goes active. Ignore the reported Failure, and proceed.
Click "Pick PRI-PR2 Drive"
This opens a file picker for your operating system. Find the "RPI-RP2" drive and select it. It will look like a USB drive, or a thumb drive. Just select the drive, not any files on the drive. Click "Select"
Click "Fetch from URL". The URL field will already be populated, so you only need to click the button. Don't click "Select UF2 File" unless someone from Halibut Electronics has sent you a file.
Click "Write UF2 to Drive" and wait. It should only take a few seconds, much less than a minute. When its done, you should see a green dialog that says "UF2 written. The device should reboot now."
Here's a short video showing the above process:
